Performance of Autonomous Vehicles in Mixed Traffic under different Demand Conditions

چکیده

Autonomous Vehicles (AVs) are considered one of the potential solutions to future urban mobility with several promised benefits regarding safety and traffic operation. Despite expected benefits, these vehicles will take decades have full market penetration before that, AVs co-exist Conventional (CVs), which may affect performance owing different driving logic than CVs. The aim this study is quantify impacts varying penetrations when introduced in mixed conditions. employed simulation environment VISSIM scenarios based on percentage traffic, category demand levels. findings show that at lower levels (1000 veh/hr 2000 veh/hr), CVs three categories produced similar results. However, cautious normal negatively operations level increased. At demand-3 (3000 rates greater 50% shows negative impact performance. demand-4 (4000 even a small proportion (25%) can performance, effect observed for rate 75%. For speed, minimum reduction increase aggressive AVs, followed by conventional vehicles, AVs. It be concluded better delays, queue length, speed conflicts CVs, highest

Efficient Routing of Emergency Vehicles under Uncertain Urban Traffic Conditions

Emergency-vehicle drivers who aim to reach their destinations through the fastest possible routes cannot rely solely on expected average travel times. Instead, the drivers should combine this travel-time information with the characteristics of data variation and then select the best or optimal route. The problem can be formulated on a graph in which the origin point and destination point are gi...

A Human-centered Test-bed for Mixed Traffic of Autonomous and Non-autonomous Vehicles

A vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) is a vehicular-wireless network enabling vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications and vehicle to infrastructure (V2I) communications. VANET has been under the international spotlight because various applications can be developed by leveraging those wireless communications to avoid vehicular collisions or to save energies. Most of VANET applications have been de...

Effect of Gap Acceptance Behavior of the Right Turning Vehicles on the Major Road Stream for Uncontrolled Three-Legged Intersections under Mixed Traffic Conditions

Uncontrolled intersections are the intersections where there are no external signs or signals to control the movement of vehicles. In mixed traffic conditions priority rules are often violated by the road users. In All-way-stop-controlled intersections (AWSC), the vehicle should stop themselves before they enter the intersection and should check whether any vehicles are present in the other app...

Dynamic Origin - Destination Demand Flow Estimation under Congested Traffic Conditions

This paper presents a single-level nonlinear optimization model to estimate dynamic origindestination (OD) demand. A path flow-based optimization model, which incorporates heterogeneous sources of traffic measurements and does not require explicit dynamic link-path incidences, is developed to minimize (i) the deviation between observed and estimated traffic states and (ii) the deviation between...

Optimizing Signalized Intersections Performance under Conventional and Automated Vehicles Traffic

Automated vehicles, or AVs (i.e. those that have the ability to operate without a driver and can communicate with the infrastructure) may transform the transportation system. This study develops and simulates an algorithm that can optimize signal control simultaneously with the AV trajectories under undersaturated traffic flow of AV and conventional vehicles. This proposed Intelligent Intersect...
